Year 6 Transition
Welcome to all Year 6 pupils and their parents!
Transferring from Primary to Secondary School can be an unsettling time for both pupils and their families. In these unprecedented times I’m sure that feeling is magnified.
I hope that the documents, videos and information we have provided will give you all the opportunity to feel confident about changing schools, and to look forward to a new start in September. We can’t wait to welcome you properly to our lovely school.
In the meantime if you have any questions or concerns you’d like to raise then please do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org

Assistant Vice Principal
Frequently Asked Questions
The following questions and answers were generated by a group of parents and carers based on their experience of the various systems and processes at UAE. We hope you find them useful.
Is there a system for lost property? Lost property is held at Student Services reception in the retained building. Students can check before, during or after school every day. Please contact your Head of Year for assistance if required.
Who do I contact with questions regarding school issues concerning my child? Your child’s tutor is the first point of call and then the head of year. Our Year 7 Head of Year remains in post each year so they are extremely experienced with this year group.
How can I contact my child’s teachers?
Parents can contact teachers via email.
Where can I find out about what is going on in school?
Parents can read the newsletter on the school website or follow us on twitter.
Will my child have a locker?
All students are offered a locker in year 7.
Where can I find a list of school journeys and events?
Trips and visits largely take place during Day 10 (which falls on Tuesday Week A for Year 7). You will receive a text a few days before your child is due to go on a visit and you’re welcome to speak to Mr Jackson (Day 10 Coordinator)
When is the Duke of Edinburgh Award offered to students?
Duke of Edinburgh Award is available for year 10 students and they will receive all information at the start of year 10.
What extra curricular opportunities are available for students at UAE?
There are many fantastic opportunities available to students at UAE. Students are told about opportunities in a variety of forms, in tutor time, assemblies and from subject teachers. Enrichment is offered between 3.30pm – 5pm on Monday – Thursday and timetables are published on our website.
Are parents allowed to use the car park?
The car park is extremely small and is therefore for staff use only.
How can I help my child to be organised?
Encourage your child to pack their school bag the night before.
How can I help monitor my child’s home learning? All parents have access to Google Classroom which allows them to monitor Home Learning. A letter with login information for Google Classroom is sent at the beginning of the year and you can always organise a tutorial with one of our staff via your Head of Year.
How can I get a note to one of my child’s teachers?
It is best to email them directly.
How do I pay for a school journey or event?
We try to ensure that all trips and events are completely free. If for any reason we need to charge a small amount we will use ParentPay.
How can I make sure my child is eating healthily whilst at school?
Parents can use their ParentPay login to see what their child has purchased during lunchtime. At breakfast students are offered porridge, at breaktime a variety of fruit is available to all students free of charge.
